Gas Furnace Repair & Installation
Gas furnaces often show signs of problems long before they fail. Malfunctioning furnaces tend to consume fuel excessively, so we encourage homeowners to track their fuel usage on a monthly and yearly basis. The efficiency difference can exceed 10%, which adds up significantly over time.
Your household can benefit greatly from a new gas installation:
- Improved indoor air quality
- Quieter and safer operation
- Reduced environmental impact
- Faster and more robust warmth
- Lower month-to-month heating costs
You may notice symptoms related to your home’s comfort, such as inconsistent temperatures and the need to adjust the thermostat frequently. Uneven heating should not be ignored. You might find cold spots, entire rooms that feel colder, or temperature differences between floors.
A significant drop in your normal humidity levels also serves as a warning sign. Other indicators include weak airflow, excessive dust accumulation, and poor indoor air quality. If you have a fuel-burning furnace, do not overlook any unexplained carbon monoxide alarm alerts.
Power and fuel-related problems commonly occur. Keep in mind that most modern fuel-burning furnaces need electricity for ignition and other features. This means your gas furnace might trip a circuit breaker. An isolated trip usually isn’t concerning, but recurring tripped circuit breakers are. Don’t keep resetting them, and stop using the furnace until a full diagnostic can be performed.
Older furnaces may still have pilot lights, so check them regularly. Keep the area around the pilot light free of dust, cobwebs, and clutter. A healthy pilot light burns blue with perhaps a tinge of yellow at the tip. Any other color indicates a problem, such as the presence of foreign substances or an incorrect fuel-to-air mixture. Although pilot lights occasionally go out, you can easily relight them.
If you have an older gas furnace, you’ll need to decide whether to repair it or replace it. Gas furnaces typically last 15 to 20 years. If your system is 15 years old and requires significant repairs, we usually recommend replacing it. Additionally, consider the cost of repairs: if a gas furnace repair costs 50% or more of a new unit’s price, we generally suggest replacing the furnace, regardless of its age.
